Some Sweet, Sweet Charlie Weis Love, And Other Unconventional Sports Crushes
Once upon a time, a site called The Black Table had a regular feature entitled Waxing Off, in which women gathered in an online roundtable to discuss issues of the day, and also to make fun of Will Leitch's shoes. And so we got to thinking: With so many great female sports bloggers out there, why not import the idea here? It's just crazy enough to work. So behold: The latest edition of Deadspin's Waxing Off. We found some terrific female writers who were willing to pen short pieces on this week's topic: Unconventional sports crushes.
I think women are smart, don't get me wrong. But for the life of me I can't figure out how Lyle Lovett scored him some Julia Roberts. And Enza Sambataro dumps Ben Affleck for Kevin Youkilis? (room spinning, must sit down). OK ladies, explain yourselves. You have six posts in which to do so.
By the way, if you'd like to be part of the Waxing Off writing staff, email myself at Rick@Deadspin.com, or Mr. Daulerio at AJD@Deadspin.com. More »

Ron Artest Speaks the Awful, Unvarnished Truth
It's pretty rare to have an interview with Ron Artest that isn't entertaining, but the one he did in the latest issue of "King" magazine is unbelievably candid. Writer Thomas Golianopoulos was a former elementary school classmate of Artest's back at P.S. 122 in Astoria Queens, which evidently gave him a level of trust beyond most reporters. Artest answered his questions with even less of a filter than usual, revealing some pretty amazing stuff. Here are some of the most interesting/disgraceful/memorable quotes from "The Education of Ron Artest": More » -

Experience The Fun Of Minnesota's U.S. Senate Election Recount With The St. Paul Saints
Here's comedian and senatorial candidate Al Franken throwing out the first pitch at a St. Paul Saints game earlier this season. It was a wise move on Mr. Franken's part, considering that the Saints' attendance that day was 12,450, and he's currently trailing in his U.S. Senate recount with Norm Coleman by only 136 votes. This appearance may have won him the election. At any rate, the Saints are proudly mocking the situation with their first promotional giveaway of the season: The Franken-Coleman Recount Doll (as seen below). More » -

Phil Savage Is Probably Sorry For "F% You" Email To Fan
Well, that didn't take long. Browns GM Phil Savage admitted he did in fact send a nasty email to a fan that was posted here last evening. According to the AP, Browns Coach Romeo Crennel was the one who confirmed:
Crennel says he understands Savage's frustration and spoke with him Thursday about the incident. Crennel says it's unfortunate that it happened, adding "in tough times, tough things happen."

Wednesday Night Live Blog: #17 Ball State at Central Michigan
Ahhh. Mid-American Conference football. You were born a fan, it's just that nobody told you until tonight. The undefeated Ball State Cardinals flutter into Mount Pleasant to tangle with some fired up Chips. Winner probably wins the MAC West Division, a fact which you already knew. Also something you knew: if you build it, they will jump. More » -

Browns' GM Phil Savage Responds To Email Hecklers Swiftly, But Not Very Politely (UPDATE)
As a person who gets tons of nasty email, I know it's tough to always show restraint and resist the urge to stick up for yourself. This practice is frowned upon, and not healthy, because, well, those emails could potentially come back to bite you in the ass. Plus, as a "professional" you're supposed to take the high road on such matters. This has to be a daily problem for sports executives, especially those who advertise their email to the public and then receive emails like this one which was sent on Monday night to Browns' GM Phil Savage from a disgruntled fan. (UPDATE: This email interaction was forwarded from WXDX in Pittsburgh. They talked about the email on air. Given that fact, skepticism about legitimacy of the email is warranted. Original emailer says it is true, but you know — these things can get out of control. So until I can find out whether or not this is the real deal — which may be hard, let's just keep this in the "might be a prank" file. Because some people are saying this is very out of character for Phil Savage. Also from the original person who sent the email to the Savage account: "It's an official address at Clevelandbrowns.com Who knows, maybe an intern checked it and flipped out. I've sent 2 flollow ups, one an apology and haven't heard anything back...." My gut? Probably the person in charge of fielding Phil Savage's email went a little haywire...). More » -

Oh...And About Simmons' Podcast: "He Told Me He Quit It"
So, here's a little snippet of of information from an individual close to the ESPN/Simmons slap-fight. Remember last week, when we reported that ESPN insisted that there was nothing to the sudden disappearance of "The B.S. Report" and that, according to them, there's no smoke, fire, or truth to that rumor? Well, according to a person — let's just call them very, very close to the situation — that was, in itself, bullshit: More » -

Tuesday Night Live Blog: Kentucky Wildcats vs. #1 UNC Tar Heels
The 24 hours of maddening college basketball is almost at an end, so let's Rosie Ruiz our way to the finish line and reap the celebratory final paces. Tradition University squares off against Heritage State in a game that Tyler Hansbrough is too proud (and hurt) to be a part of, but that doesn't mean ESPN doesn't want you to watch. Dan Shulman, Dick Vitale and Erin Andrews can be seen at 9 p.m. in their entirety in cynical sound bytes once you jump to the limit. More » -

Brett Favre And Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum's Broseph Love Is Boundless and Obscenity-Laden
The New York Jets were fired up after their victory over the dastardly Patriots last Thursday night and rightly so, considering all that was on the line. But no one was more excited than the ol' gunslinger, Brett Favre, who shared an unreserved embrace with Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum after the victory that pretty much tells you everything you need to know about both men. After the jump, enjoy their exchange in the tunnel at Gillette Stadium. Team Favre-rica.... More »
